The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership will host a Summit to bring together leaders and practitioners from the public and private sectors for a national conversation about the health system’s strategies to address the social determinants of patient health and how to normalize the use of legal services and expertise as an important component in these strategies.

The Summit is a chance for those in the allied health, health, law, public health, and social work fields to:

  • share research, insights, and best practices about how to build capacity for and operationalize medical-legal partnership services,
  • how to link legal interventions with other social determinant of health strategies,
  • and how to catalyze public and private sustainable funding for these services.

The connection between social factors—like housing, hunger, education, and exposure to violence—and health are clear. So is the financial burden placed on the health care system when it’s left to treat the effects of widespread social and structural inequities. As health care moves toward a system of value-based care, partnering with other sectors to inform and address structural barriers to individual and population health will be a critical part of any health care organization’s social determinants of health strategy.
